Plain & Simple. If we are cold then they are cold!
We have all come up with this misconception that because animals have fur they are immune to the cold freezing weather. The truth is, they are just as vulnerable to the cold as we are. Yes their ancestors were maybe better equipped to handle the cold, but if your pet has ever lived inside then they are NOT going to be ok outside.
Animals feel pain, they feel hurt, they feel sadness. Cats, Dogs, Horses, they all need to be protected when our weather gets too cold.
Imagine you are put outside with a coat on (equivalent to their fur coats). No hat, no gloves, no scarf… just a coat. Now imagine how long it will take you before you start to get cold, before you start to shiver, before you start to feel miserable!
Did you know animals can get frost bite too? Did you know they need a shelter, a place to escape from the cold?
Animals in the wild protect themselves, they seek shelter out of the direct cold, they sleep together in packs or groups to maintain warmth, they don’t leave their shelters during extreme cold.
So please, protect your babies (you are the ONLY voice they have & the ONLY protection they have). So be kind, keep your animals inside during the cold. With horses, please put protective blankets on them & make sure they have shelter out of the straight cold.
PS – Anything below 40 degrees animals should not spend more then 10-15 minutes in!
